How to use your Apple Watch for fitness
Your Apple Watch can be a helpful fitness tracker, but it’s not always accurate. Here are some tips on how to use your Apple Watch to get the most accurate fitness tracking.
First, make sure that you have the Watch set up for fitness tracking. To do this, open the “Workout” app on your Watch. Then, scroll down and tap “Start New Workout.” Next, select the type of workout that you’ll be doing. For walking or running workouts, select “Outdoors.” For other workouts, select “Indoors.”
Once you’ve selected the type of workout, you’ll need to calibrate your Watch. To do this, go for a walk or run at your usual pace for at least 20 minutes. Then, open the “Workout” app on your Watch and scroll down to “Advanced.” Tap “Calibrate watch for walking + running pace.” Follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your Watch.
After you’ve calibrated your Watch, you can start tracking your workouts. To do this, open the “Workout” app on your Watch and scroll down to “Start New Workout.” Select the type of workout that you’ll be doing and tap “Start.” The Workout app will track your progress and give you credit for calories burned and distance covered.
You can also use the Health app on your iPhone to track your progress over time. To do this, open the Health app and tap “Sources.” Then, tap “Edit” in the top right corner and make sure that the “Fitness Tracking” toggle is turned on. Once it is, all of your workout data from your Apple Watch will appear in the Health app.
How to set up fitness tracking on your Apple Watch
Assuming you’ve already updated your Watch to watchOS 2 (if not, do that now), open the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap Privacy > Health. Next, scroll down and tap Share My Fitness. On the following screen, toggle the switch next to Workout Routines.

How to monitor your heart rate with your Apple Watch
There are multiple ways to monitor your heart rate with your Apple Watch. The most popular method is to use the Workout app, which track your heart rate data during a workout and stores it in the Health app.
To measure your heart rate with the Workout app:
1. Open the Workout app on your Apple Watch.
2. Tap the “Start” button in the top-left corner of the screen.
3. Scroll down and tap “Heart Rate.”
4. Tap “Start.”
5. The Workout app will now measure and display your heart rate data.
In addition to using the Workout app, you can also use the Heart Rate Glance, which gives you a quick overview of your current heart rate data. To access the Heart Rate Glance:
1. Swipe up from the watch face to bring up Glances.
2. Scroll to the Heart Rate Glance and tap on it.
3. The Heart Rate Glance will now show you your current heart rate data.
How to use the Breathe app on your Apple Watch
Assuming that you have already set up your Apple Watch and have installed the necessary software updates, you’re ready to begin using the Breathe app.
To launch the Breathe app, press the Digital Crown until you see the Home screen. Look for the yellow and white app icon with a green leaf – this is the Breathe app. Tap on it to launch the app.
When you first open the Breathe app, you will see a tutorial explaining how to use the app. Once you’ve gone through the tutorial, or if you’ve chosen to skip it, you’ll be taken to the main Breathe screen.
On the main Breathe screen, you can choose how long you want your breathing session to be. You can choose from 1-5 minutes. The default is 1 minute, but we recommend choosing at least 3 minutes for a more relaxing experience.
Once you’ve chosen your duration, tap on “Start.” You will then see a large circle on your screen that expands and contracts with each breath. Inhale when the circle expands, and exhale when it contracts. You can also choose to have haptic feedback (a light tap) on your wrist with each breath if you want.
The Breathe app will keep track of how many breathing sessions you’ve done in a day, as well as your total time spent breathing.
How to use the Walkie-Talkie app on your Apple Watch
Got an Apple Watch? Here’s how to use the Walkie-Talkie app to keep in touch with your friends while you’re out and about.
To start, open the Walkie-Talkie app on your Apple Watch. You’ll see a list of your contacts that also have the Walkie-Talkie app installed and setup.
Tap on the contact that you want to talk to, then wait for them to answer. When they do, you’ll be able to talk to them just like you would on a regular walkie-talkie.
When you’re done, just tap the End button and your conversation will be over.

The Phone app on your Apple Watch lets you make calls, send and receive messages, and view recent calls and voicemails. You can also add contacts and favorites for quick access to the people you talk to most.
How to customize your watch face on your Apple Watch
From the Watch Face Gallery page in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, you can tap and hold a watch face to quickly customize it, then swipe left or right to choose new options. To see even more possibilities, tap My Faces, then Create New.
When you find a face that you like, swipe left or right until you get to the Customize page. You can change the color of the Complications, turn On or Off certain features likethe seconds hand or noise meter, and choose different variants of the same face.
Some watch faces offer different ways to view your data. For example, the Utility face has options for a modular view with large numbers or a standard view with small numbers. Swipe up and down on each watch face to scroll through all the available options.
