Burn Fat All Day | Speed Up Your Metabolism

Burn Fat All Day Long

Your metabolism is how your body converts the food you eat into energy. Your metabolic rate is the rate at which this process happens. This means that the higher your metabolic rate, the faster you burn calories, and the faster you burn fat. Follow the metabolism boosting tips in this article to kick start your fat loss.

Eat Breakfast

A decent breakfast containing protein, complex carbohydrates and a source of good fats can immediately raise your metabolism by up to 70%. Breakfast not only helps to burn fat, it is also a great way of keeping catabolism at bay after 8 hours or so without food.

Whilst Commuting

You may be surprised to learn that Caffeine can be responsible for boosting your metabolism by up to 16%. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, which in turn, increases heart rate. Drinking a cup of coffee on your way to the office will not only wake you up for the day, but will also help you to burn fat on the way.

When At Work

Instead of going all morning without eating and then eating a massive lunch, it is far better to eat little and often throughout the day. When the body detects that food intake is sparse, it is more likely to use what food it does get much more slowly and/or store it as fat. Eating little and often provides the body with a constant supply of food which, as the body requires energy to break down food, in turn will speed up your metabolic rate. Sadly this effect does not apply to high calorie snacks & chocolate, try grazing on fruit and nuts instead.

In The Gym

Increase the rate at which you burn fat in the gym by switching from slow and steady cardio vascular exercise to high intensity interval training. Interval training can help you to burn more calories in the same amount of time. Short and sharp bursts of speed stimulate chemical compounds called Catecholamines which allow the body to use the fat stored under the skin and in the muscles being exercised.

At Home

Oily fish such as Mackerel, Salmon and Tuna are not only packed to the gills with muscle building Omega-3 fatty acids, but will also lower levels of Leptin within the body. Leptin is the hormone responsible for regulating the metabolism and for the removal of fat from cells. Low levels of Leptin create a faster metabolism.

Tips to Burn Fat

  • Drinking an ice cold glass of water can increase metabolic rate for up to 30 minutes. This is because the body needs to heat the water to a suitable temperature before it can be used. Staying hydrated will also help you to feel more alert. Dehydration thickens the blood and therefore increases the heart’s workload and causes fatigue.

Eccentric loading - Burn fat during recovery

  • Given the choice of sitting, or standing up, stand up every time. Standing up encourages the enzyme Lipase which is a key component in the body’s ability to burn fat.
  • Make sure you eat a good source of protein with every meal. Protein can increase your metabolic rate by up to 40%. This is because protein contains nitrogen which must be stripped and removed by the liver, making it take longer to digest as a result.
  • Whilst in the gym, eccentric loading can boost your metabloism for up to 72 hours. Eccentric loading involves lowering a weight back to the start position of an exercise, slowly, and under control. This increases the breakdown of muscle tissue so more calories are used during the repair process.
